Juneteenth Community Day 2025

Juneteenth is more than a date in history. It is an ongoing pursuit and a shared aspiration of all Americans. The National Civil Rights Museum hosted its fourth annual Juneteenth Community Day on June 19, 2025, a day dedicated to honoring the legacy of emancipation and the continuing journey toward justice for all. In a time when the promise of equality still faces challenges, Juneteenth reminds us of how far we have come and how far we still must go. It is more than a holiday. It is a call to reflect, engage, and act as a united, diverse community.

Museum Chief Engagement Officer Veda Ajamu described the event as a day not only to get educated but also to honor the strength of the people who continued to fight for equity. “It’s really about community and a way to bring the community together,” Ajamu said. “It’s also for people to tour the museum and get educated on the history of Juneteenth.” The event featured arts and crafts, entertainment throughout the day, remarks from the 2024-2025 Miss Juneteenth student on what the holiday means to her, food trucks, and fun giveaways for all ages. DJ Thriller, also a historian, spun music throughout the day while integrating history and facts about Juneteenth into his sets.

Baptist Memorial Health Care and Baptist Health Sciences University lent a health equity focus to the event, providing screenings, wellness information, and community resources. Free museum admission was available all day on a first-come basis, with no advance reservations required. The event ran from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and was free to all members of the public.
